Led by the sprint relay teams at LBJ ECHS, Austin ISD tracksters will go for gold at the state track meet May 11–13 in Austin.
“When you make it this far, you’re top eight in the state, so our goal is to go in there and run our best races of the season,” LBJ boys track coach Curtis Clay said. “It’s been an amazing season, and it’s not over yet.”
The Jaguars’ boys’ and girls’ 100- and 200-meter relay teams will vie for top honors, as will Rachel Horowitz in the 100 meters, Sarah Porter and Caroline Anyatonwu in the 200, and Hannah Porter in the 400.
“We’ve been encouraging our kids from day one to buy in,” LBJ girls track coach Jahmal Fenner said. “We knew if they truly bought in to our program, they would have this type of success.”
The Jags will have plenty of company from throughout AISD. Crockett High School’s Aniah Marshall will compete in the girls’ long jump and triple jump, while Alassani Djaneye of Reagan ECHS will vie for a medal in the boys’ long jump.
Bowie High School’s Carolyn Evans, meanwhile, is set to go the distance in the 1600- and 3200-meter races.
